Moving toward equity in learning requires examining problems and making changes in three domains -personal, social, and cultural. Only a wholistic approach will fully address the problem of inequality and ensure all learners thrive psychosocially, socially, academically, and vocationally.
Welcome! I am Amanda J. Rockinson-Szapkiw (zap-q) and am an educator, scholar, and innovator who focuses on the development and investigation of systems (e.g., family, technological, institutional) to assist all thrive psychosocially, socially, academically, and vocationally. I am especially interested in higher education and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and the advancement and broadening participation of women and racial and ethnic minorities’ in these areas. I believe technology and distance education systems can be leveraged for these purposes. Therefore, I have 3 main areas of research: 1) doctoral education and persistence, 2) distance education and technological systems, and 3) gender and racial equity in science, technology, math, and engineering (STEM).
